Darling Says U.K. Already ‘Put a Lot of Money Into the Economy

Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling signaled the U.K. may not provide much more of a fiscal stimulus in its annual budget statement next month, saying “automatic stabilizers” already are giving a boost.

“You have to look at all these things in the round,” Darling said at a meeting of Group of 20 finance ministers in Horsham, England. “It is important to look at the totality of what you are putting into the economy. We have put a lot of money into the economy.”

Asked whether specifically about a stimulus in the budget, he said, “that is something we continually keep under review. There is a changing economic backdrop. It’s important that we see things through payday loans for bad credit.

Darling said ‘‘automatic stabilizers’’ in the budget, which increase benefits and reduce tax income when the economy falters, already are bolstering the U.K.

‘‘You have to look at more than what is narrowly called stimulus. We have used the automatic stabilizers. And if you aggregate all that, we are pretty near the top’’ in terms of countries. ‘‘You have to look at all these things in the round.’’

He also said he’d like to increase G-20 resources to the International Monetary Fund.
