Independence Center gets $50,000 Anthem gift
The Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation in Missouri awarded $51,479 to Independence Center, a nonprofit agency serving St. Louis-area adults with serious and persistent mental illnesses.
The grant will fund Independence Center’s wellness coaching project to educate participants on the need for physical activity and healthier lifestyle choices. The program is called Take Charge: Increasing Physical Activity Levels for Adults with Serious Mental Illnesses. About 100 people will be served annually through the program.
Executive Director Mike Keller heads Independence Center, which provides programs and services to assist St. Louis-area adults who have serious and persistent mental illnesses through rehabilitation, employment, education, social and housing opportunities. The Center also provides clinical, case management and partial hospitalization services in collaboration with Barnes-Jewish Hospital and the BJC Health System.
