NYS government still in business

State lawmakers put off a shutdown of government operations Monday, with both houses securing enough votes to approve emergency spending for the 11th consecutive week.

This extension, forwarded by Gov. David Paterson, does include several hundred million dollars in reduction in health care and human services.

The stat Senate approved the measure 34-27 while the Democratic-led Assembly approved the appropriation by a vote of 87-50 payday advance.

The complete state budget was due in place as April 1.

New York is facing a budget shortfall of more than $9 billion.
